Welcome to the website of Senn-Sational Jerseys, a family-owned dairy farm located in beautiful upstate South Carolina!

For more than 30 years, the Senn family has been breeding and developing this fully-registered herd of Jersey cattle. Today, it is comprised of more than 550 milking cows and 550 young stock. About 900 acres are farmed. Corn is raised for silage and small grains are raised for hay. Citrus pulp, wet brewer's grain and a custom mix supplement the herd's total mixed ration.

The September 2004 rolling herd average on 554 cows stood at 15,900 pounds milk, 719 pounds fat and 554 pounds protein, using no BST. Some 87 of these individuals are appraised Excellent. After the April 2008 genetic evaluations, 11 cows are ranked among the top 1 1/2 percent of the breed for Jersey Performance Index.

Senn-Sational Jerseys are bred for strength, functional udders, sound feet and legs and, above all, longevity. Milk yield and components are also important considerations of the breeding program.

Dairy cattle were added to the father and son operation in 1972, when Frank and Charles Senn purchased a neighbor's mixed herd of Jerseys and Holsteins. Two years later, the herd became fully Jersey. Charles and Ann Senn took over sole ownership of the herd in the late '80s.

Today, the farm is operated by Charles and Ann Senn and Jenny, Lorie, Chad and Melanie Senn.

Over the years, a few select, top-quality animals have been purchased from consignment sales, to add new bloodlines to the herd.

The farm has also been on the other end of the deal, routinely consigning animals to leading local, regional and national sales. Senn-Sational-bred Jerseys can be found doing well in herds across the country.

Show ring success is something of which the Senns are especially proud. Senn-Sational Jerseys have been named Supreme, Grand and Junior Champion in a variety of state, regional and national shows. For the past 14 consecutive years, the family has earned the coveted Premier Breeder Banner of the South Carolina State Fair.

Senn-Sational Jerseys exhibited two of the top six finalists at the 2005 National Jersey Jug Futurity. Reserve Winner, Senn-Sational Hallmark Laine, second from left, was shown by Ann and sixth-place honoree, Senn-Sational Jade Fancy Girl, fourth from left, was exhibited by Jenny.

Service is also important to the Senn family. Charles is a member of the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association (SUDIA) Board and the South Carolina Farm Bureau Dairy Board. Jenny is a member of the National Beef Board. She reminds dairy producers that half of the beef industry's check-off dollars come from the pockets of dairy producers!

In 2003, Jenny was awarded the Young Jersey Breeder Award from the American Jersey Cattle Association. Several years ago, the South Carolina Jersey Association awarded Charles and Ann its Distinguished Service Award.
